The first time at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES), that takes place every year in Las Vegas, Ukraine will exhibit its national Tech Expo. The participants of Ukrainian Expo zone were chosen on October 12th via conducting the UVCA Startup Challenge: CES Edition, that was organized by Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (UVCA) jointly with Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF).
Among of 16 participants that took part at the competition final, 8 of them were awarded by jury commission with the participation at UA Tech Expo zone.
“The crucial thing for our country is to have companies that produce products for the global market. In such companies members of UVCA – international and local investors – are willing to invest. As I usually say to young entrepreneurs in Ukraine – make your product here and sell it worldwide!” – has commented the Chairman of UVCA, Founder and Managing partner of AVentures Capital, Andrey Kolodyuk.
We already have Ukrainian companies that are successfully selling their products in USA, Europe and other countries, and not the least factor of such a scaling was the participation at CES – it was shown us by Petcube (gadget for communication with pets), IBlazr (worldwide well-known splash light for IPhone).
Next year the Ukrainian Tech at CES will present the winners of UVCA Startup Challenge: Raccoon.world, Luciding, Wider, Leantegra, SolarGaps, Hideez, MMOne Project, Technovator.
These companies will get the free opportunity to exhibit their products at CES 2017 (usually the cost of one place for a startup is around $2,5-4K). They will also take part in all press-events organized by UVCA and WNISEF during CES. Thereby these startups will not only raise their recognition in Ukraine but also will have the opportunity to attract attention of international authority, potential clients and investors.
“The mission of our Association is to build the bridge between Ukrainian and Global investment and startup ecosystems, match the investors and Ukrainian entrepreneurs. – Executive Director of UVCA, Olga Afanasieva – Despite the fact that UVCA is mostly aiming on protecting rights and interests of its members, who are mostly investors, we cannot foster the growth of Ukrainian investment market without supporting Ukrainian startups. With this idea, we are initiating and implementing a lot of projects that give young entrepreneurs opportunities to present their products at the global market, learn practical things from leading experts and invertors.”
Jaroslawa Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Western NIS Enterprise Fund: “I am convinced that IT-industry is certainly one of the most perspective sectors of Ukrainian economy and long-term investing will not only foster the job creation but also open the new markets for Ukraine. That is the mission of our Fund – transform the lives of ordinary people”.
It is to say that UVCA Startup Challenge: CES Edition was already the second project conducted in association with WNISEF. The winner of the first UVCA Startup Challenge, which took place on April 2016, healthcare startup Cardiolyse presented Ukraine at the Silicon Valley Open Doors Conference (SVOD).
